The Soundweavers cast is thrilled to announce the featured artists for our next cycle! Rosy and Blaire speak first with Catriona Price and Esther Swift of the genre-shattering violin and harp duo Twelfth Day, an ensemble that weaves folk, classical, improvisatory, and experimental styles with bracing lyrics challenging listeners to examine major social issues.
In episode 7, Rosy and Adam speak with composer Amy Williams, Professor of Composition at the University of Pittsburgh, about her role as the Artistic Director of New Music on the Point, her recent composition for the JACK Quartet and Tony Arnold, and the urgent necessity for musicians to tackle the many social issues our communities face today.
Our next episode features Ashleigh Gordon of Castle of our Skins, a Boston-based collective founded to celebrate Black artistry and to foster cultural curiosity. Ashleigh speaks with Rosy and Adam about the founding of Castle of our Skins, developing programs and initiatives in the time of COVID-19, the ways in which the Black Lives Matter movement has shaped her work, and her advice for better equipping musicians to lead mission-oriented lives.
In episode 9, Juliana Athayde and Erik Behr of the Society for Chamber Music in Rochester discuss the vision and administration of a chamber music series, managing a youth composition competition, supporting pre-professional music students with opportunities to perform, and balancing their careers as orchestral musicians, and professors with family life.
